Stefan Sagmeister was born August 6, 1962 in Bregenz Austria. Stefan is well known for graphic design, film and typography, Stefan co-founded a design firm called Sagmeister and Walsh, which is a creative agency based in New York. He’s also designed album covers for famous artists like Rolling Stones, Jay Z and Aerosmith.

For my first photoshoot i wanted to take natural shots. I wanted to show my perception of Otara, the good and bad. I chose to do black and white adding a little bit of colour to show the good. Where there is darkness there is light.

When i was talking to Tihei about my project he agreed on how the media portrays Otara in a negative way. This experimentation includes compositions using Helvetica bold in black and white. All these type posters reflect characteristics of my place such as, state houses which are in blocks, fast movement of cars, bikes, smoke and Otara being a mixed bag. These moodboards will help me with creating my own typeface. I chose these images because of the weight, curves, thickness / thinness, detail, composition, idea and texture which portrays the characteristics of Otara. Otara is a very dirty and rough place.

All these photos were taken of typography around Otara, showing the different styles, messages and textures. While taking these photos i noticed typography is everywhere and displayed on different platforms like walls, glass, rubbish bins, benches, vehicles and fences.
